A Successful 2019 Wonderfront Festival Recap

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27

Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival delivered an incredible 3-day weekend filled with music, art, and unforgetable memories. This ambitious first-year festival took over downtown San Diego like no other music festival has done before with more than 10 stages, 128 bands and 29 DJ’s, across 5 parks stretched along the bay. The weekend’s attendance surpassed 56,000 in its inaugural year. It’s breathtaking location between the bay and San Diego’s ever-growing downtown skyline, Wonderfront was truly a postcard setting.

Each evening closed with electrifying headlining sets across multiple main stages including Miguel, Ben Harper, Nicky Jam, MGMT, Migos, Slightly Stoopid, Don Omar, Tyga, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Los Angeles Azules, and X Ambassadors. Each performance captivated crowds and garnered rave fanfare;

“Thank you for filling my soul with the amazing music this team put together. I may have pulled every muscle from my hips to my ankles, but it was totally worth it.” – Julie Moritz

While music was thoughtfully woven into each aspect of the festival, it was only part of the fun. Patrons could hop aboard Flagship yachts and water taxis for a stunning view of the bay, SWOOP took over the sky with an aerial skydiving show, punk rock bands and pro-skaters (including Tony Hawk himself) took over at Tony Hawk’s Huckjam venue, incredible activations let fans lounge in style like in Uncle Ed’s D*mn Good Village or the Hazy Little Thing Lounge, plus local food and drinks flowed throughout each venue including LionFish, NaPizza, Sambazon, Wicked Maine Lobster, Chanchos Tacos, some of San Diego’s favorite local craft beers, and so much more.

“San Diego was absolutely beautiful this weekend, great layout, better than expected music performances, the detail and fun interaction with the vendors was so fun! That bridge from Uncle Ed’s Stage to the KUSI stage was brilliant. The Water Taxi’s were so convenient and that Marietta Boat with the bands (we forgot to get off, we were having too much fun).” – Donna Rose

“Best music festival ever!” – Lisa Lewis

“This was by far the best festival SD has produced in a while. Fantastic location, great layout.” – Chris Maris

“Luv Luv Loved it! You totally sold me!! And for being the first time ever, What??!! The venue was smooth sailing (unusual for a first time).” – Michelle Drosis

The first year festival earned high praises from many artists, as the social posts started flowing; “Thank you @Wonderfrontfest for having us. Amazing vibe for a first year festival.” – Bob Moses

“Last full set of 2019 was magical with San Diego and @Wonderfrontfest.” – Walk The Moon

“Our last live show of 2019 on Saturday in San Diego was the best possible way to finish a crazy year.” – The Knocks “It was such an honor and fun experience to be a part of the first Wonderfront Festival. I loved being able to share the stage with some legendary artists and to see so much Latin talent in the lineup! I know this will be the first of many!” – Victoria La Mala

Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival was truly a music lover’s festival and made San Diegans fall in love with their city all over again. With endless opportunities and experiences, there was something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age or music taste. Wonderfront Festival is looking forward to blowing everyone’s minds in 2020 on what a festival can further evolve into becoming, with many more surprises up our sleeves.
